Silvio Di Loreto

Silvio Di Loreto

Silvio Di Loreto

Silvio Di Loreto joined the SBCC Foundation Board of Directors in 1978, serving as its president from 1983 to 1987. During this time, Silvio helped to organize the foundation's first Annual Fund Campaign, which raised $72,000. In addition, he established a series of estate planning seminars and was a charter member of the SBCC Foundation President's Council, (known today as the President's Circle).

Di Loreto/MacDougall Overlook on Santa Barbara City College's West Campus was improved with a gift from Silvio. The overlook is named for Silvio and Dr. Peter MacDougall (President of the college from 1980-2001) and features a number of probing questions embedded in the rockwork that are intended to spark philosophical thought in the minds of those enjoying the beauty of the overlook. To thank him for his long-term service and leadership of the SBCC Foundation, the SBCC Board of Trustees recognized Silvio with a resolution in 1987.

Silvio's generosity to SBCC students extended to his estate planning in which he provided funding to endow two scholarships following his death in 2017. The first in Creative Writing honors his dear friend Ruggiero Aldisert, a son of Italian immigrants who became a United States Circuit Court of Appeals Judge (Third Circuit) and served from 1968 until 2014. The second in Culinary Arts honors Silvio, himself an avid amateur chef. Prior to his passing, Silvio gifted his significant collection of cookbooks-more than 1,000-to the School of Culinary Arts.

Silvio received many community acknowledgements including Realtor of the Year; Honorary Director of the California Real Estate Association (a lifetime designation that began in 1972); and the Anti-Defamation League's Distinguished Community Service Award.
